Cuba celebrates the start of the 2024-2025 school year

From early in the morning, more than 10 thousand educational institutions throughout the country opened their doors to around 1.6 million students to begin the 2024-2025 school year in General Education.
Naima Trujillo Barreto, head of the sector, highlighted that in the midst of the current complex scenario, a high priority was given to the updating of textbooks, included in the Third Improvement of the National Education System, the assurance of resources and study material base, as well as the sale of uniforms to Preschool and other initial grades.
Barreto Trujillo emphasized the work carried out to assure stability in teacher coverage, highlighting the implementation of Resolution 10, which updates the procedure for paying teacher overload and seniority, which has enabled the reinstatement of more than 12,000 teachers, although needs persist in some territories for which alternatives are being applied.
On September 16, thousands more young Cubans will return to the classrooms with the beginning on that date of the new school year for Higher Education.
