The Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP) announced the start of its traditional International Peace Conference against the blockade and terrorism with a tribute to the young Italian Fabio Di Celmo, killed by a terrorist act on September 4, 1997 at the Copacabana Hotel in this city.
The remembrance of that day will be another strong condemnation of the terrorist attacks that Cuba has suffered for years and a denunciation of the cynical and unjust inclusion of the island in the U.S. list of state sponsors of terrorism.
The day’s program also included the screening at ICAP headquarters of Italian director Angelo Rizzo’s film Cuando la verdad despierta (When truth awakens), co-produced by Cuba, Spain and Italy and based on the brutal bombing that took Fabio’s life.
Inspired by the celebrations of World Peace Day (September 21) with a far-reaching virtual campaign and scheduled to last until the day that the United Nations General Assembly votes on the draft resolution on the need to put an end to the U.S. blockade of Cuba, the Conference will also salute the solidarity activities with Puerto Rico on September 16 to 20 and will denunciate the Israeli genocidal escalation in the Gaza Strip.
Likewise, on October 29, the U.S.-Cuba Normalization Coalition Committee will hold a 24-hour-long virtual protest against the blockade, whereas the international Cuba solidarity movement will mark online the World Cuba Solidarity Day on October 10.
According to ICAP deputy president Víctor Gaute, this year’s Conference has a greater scope “focused on the defense of the just causes of all peoples under any form of attack and of the truth over the lies, as well as against the hegemonic attempts that prevail in today’s world”.
