Work continues to restore the National Electric System

Following the disconnection of the National Electric System on Wednesday, work continues to restore it.

Work is carried out to connect the West and Center with the East, although Pinar del Río, Granma, and Guantánamo remain to be reconnected, the Cuban Electric Union (UNE) reported today on its social media.

According to the UNE report, the country went from a total blackout (0 MW) to 1,000 MW in less than 24 hours. The process is entering its final phase. Objective: to restore full electrical service within the day.

According to the Ministry of Energy and Mines (Minem), Unit 5 of the Nuevitas thermoelectric plant (CTE), Unit 3 of the Céspedes CTE, the engines at Mariel, Units 1 and 3 at Santa Cruz, Unit 8 at Mariel, and Energas Varadero and Boca de Jaruco are in operation.

Their boilers are already running, and Unit 6 at the Mariel CTE and the Guiteras CTE are in the process of starting up. (Source: Granma)
