The provincial branch of the UNEAC in Holguín, through its Cinema, Radio and Television (CRTV) section, convenes the 12th edition of the Taguabo 2022 national audiovisual contest to be held from June 8 to 12 in this city.
In alliance with the delegations of the Center for Exchange and Reference on Community Initiatives (CIERIC), CITMA and the Provincial Directorate of Culture, this event contributes to reflecting and promoting the culture of appreciation and care for the environment and natural surroundings, in addition to the artistic work in the localities.
During its 12 years of creation, Taguabo promoted the defense of children's rights to artistic development in audiovisual media and the quality of the competing works.
The filmmaker Alfonso Bandera Tamayo, organizer of the contest, said to the ACN that those interested can compete in the categories of Audiovisual (Cinema, TV and Video) and Radio, in the genres of documentary, short film, fiction, video art, radio art, video clip and the so-called experimental, with unpublished works, or published from May 8, 2020 to May 31, 2022.
He added that all Cuban or foreign filmmakers, adults, members or not of the UNEAC, and girls and boys who are permanent residents in the country may participate.
The works will address the following themes without distinction of artistic genres in the way of telling the stories: about community life; appreciation and care for the environment and natural surroundings; and rights of girls and boys.
Creators have the possibility of participating with a work for each prize announced, with the names and surnames of the contestant, permanent identity number, address, phone number and e-mail.
It will also be accompanied by the corresponding technical sheet, the synopsis of the work and the script, an essential element to compete, he noted.
Audiovisuals must be sent in digital format: DVD, CD, or as data (on the same media) with extensions .avi, .mov or .mp4 (in the case of HD), and mp3 in the case of radio spaces; the works submitted to the contest will become part of the patrimony of the CRTV affiliate of the Provincial Committee of the UNEAC.
The jury will be made up of prestigious media specialists and critics and their decisions will be final, awarding a cash prize for each of the categories convened, as well as a replica of the Taguabo statuette and a supporting diploma.
This year’s event will include workshops, keynote speeches, debates and exhibitions aimed at highlighting the work of Cinema, Radio and Television in daily life.
Emerged in 2006, with the name of the aboriginal god of rain and fertility, Taguabo is celebrated every year in the municipalities of Banes, Antillas and Holguín, and constitutes the ideal platform for artists, people and filmmakers to address issues such as working in the community, protecting the environment and advocating for child protection.
