On the occasion of the 19th edition of the Gibara International Poor Film Festival, to be held from April 15 to 19, a press conference was held here to launch the promotional spot that will represent the event, designed by visual artist Nelson Ponce.
The festival will be held in April, in accordance with the foundational bases set forth by Humberto Solas in his Manifesto and returns to its original name, which does not allude to lack, but to audiovisual creation with low resources, but with artistic and humanistic quality.
Despite the date changes, the number of films submitted exceeded expectations. A total of 528 proposals were presented, including 267 works of fiction, 203 of documentary, 37 of animation and 21 of video art, highlighting countries such as Spain, with more than 100 works, Cuba, Colombia, Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, as well as Congo, Morocco, Turkey and Serbia, among others.
In this edition of the festival, the plastic arts, concerts, meetings with the press and critics, the performing arts will come together with the presence of the Teatro de las Estaciones de Matanzas group, the oral narration company Palabras al viento, as well as the local dance group Codanza.
The meeting was ideal to highlight the importance of the Films in Progress sections, for the support of productions in progress and the Poor Film Factory, with the aim to boost the creation, promotion and distribution of audiovisuals in eastern Cuba.
The meeting was attended by Aldo Benvenuto Solás, general producer of the festival, Yakelin Tapia, executive director of the event, as well as Rafael Grillo, Rubén Ricardo Infante and René de la Cruz, as essential personalities in the organization of the Poor Film Festival.
