The 17th edition of the National Audiovisual Festival Por Primera Vez (For the First Time), dedicated to the promotion of the work of young Cuban filmmakers, concluded in the city of Holguín with the awarding of the Grand Prize to the work "Two Chairs", under the direction of José Ñamandú.
The jury, made up of Lázaro Alderete, president of the National Federation of Cinema Clubs, Lino Verdecia, film critic and director Osnel Ferrer, decided to award Two Chairs due to its power of synthesis, good use of cinematographic resources and photographic proposal made in art direction.
For its part, the Grand Prize in the pitch section went to the documentary "You are someone's son", by Franks Daniel Linares, for being a necessary film about the resistance of a group of artists that has marked the history of contemporary theater in the country.
"This project demonstrates the need to continue betting on pure and unique art, the concerns that new generations have to bring to light the history of our culture and the importance of talking about other artistic manifestations through cinema, because as its director stated: art, above all, is rebellion," said Rosa María Rodríguez Pupo, film producer and jury of the section.
Franks Daniel Linares said that the current edition of the contest became a place where young people interested in the seventh art have been able to create and feel safe with those projects that at some point they considered lost.
The city of Holguín hosted the 17th edition of the National Audiovisual Festival For the First Time for five days, where young filmmakers from all over the country had the opportunity to exchange with important figures of Cuban cinema such as Fernando Pérez, Jorge Molina, Jorge Martínez and René de la Cruz.
