The Russian Culture Day began this Thursday until March 16 in the city of Holguín with a broad program of activities, including concerts and debates.

Alfredo Más, the event's organizer, told the Cuban News Agency that among the main activities is the premiere of Tchaikovsky's opera "Eugene Onegin," which will take place on March 15 and 16 in the Raúl Camayd Hall of the Eddy Suñol Theater, under the general direction of Liudmila Pérez.

Helson Hernández, artistic director of the show, commented that the opera, premiered in 1879 and based on the verse novel by the writer Aleksandr Pushkin, will be staged by the Rodrigo Prats Lyric Theater alongside soloists from Havana's lyric movement as guest figures, such as mezzo-soprano Giselle Polanco, in the role of Olga, and tenor Jorge Luis Guzmán, interpreting Lenski.

The event also includes the presentation of the ballet "The Nutcracker" by students from the Raúl Gómez García Elementary School of Art; and a concert by singers from the Rodrigo Prats Lyric Theater, along with students from the Singing Department of the Holguín branch of the University of the Arts, featuring a select repertoire of great Russian composers.

The event will also host a debate on Russian culture conducted by Natalia Prónina, a member of the Community of Russian Speakers in Holguín, which will pay tribute to Alexander Pushkin and Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, illustrious representatives of Romanticism.

Sponsored by the Provincial Council of the Performing Arts of Holguín, the CMBF National Musical Radio station, and the Russian House of Havana, the event aims to bring the idiosyncrasies of the Slavic country closer to the Holguín public through various artistic expressions. (Source: ACN)
