René de la Cruz, head of theater and galas at the event, announced at a press conference that also during the opening night, renowned actor Mario Limonta, who passed away in January of this year, will be honored for his acting work and his significance within national culture.

Lilian Morales, general coordinator of the Festival, noted that 90 works were selected for the Lucía Awards competition, divided into nine feature-length fiction films, 19 short films, 11 feature-length documentaries, 16 short documentaries, plus animations and experimental films.

The juries that will present the top awards are made up of filmmakers from Cuba, Spain, France, Italy, and others, who will also enhance the event with their participation in theoretical panels and lectures that will take place as part of the program.

The Lucía Awards, inspired by Humberto Solás' iconic film that narrates three moments in Cuban history through three women of the same name, are the highest honors in each category of the competition and their presentation also recognizes the work of highly relevant figures linked to Cuban cinema.
