The Celestino Short Story Prize takes place from today until June 13 in the city of Holguín, with a wide program of literary presentations and panels dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the Territorial Publishing System (SET).
The event, sponsored by the Hermanos Saíz Association and Ediciones La Luz, with the support of the Provincial Book Center and the Provincial Directorate of Culture, honors the 20th anniversary of the death of Guillermo Cabrera Infante and the centenary of Franz Kafka's “The Process”.
With the theme "Celestino Dead by the Rose," referencing Yukio Mishima's work the event takes place in support of the campaign of promotion and defense of Cuban literature, said at press conference Luis Yuseff, editor and chief of Ediciones La Luz.
He pointed out that over 20 unpublished stories were submitted from young storytellers from all over the country and the winner, who will be announced on June 13, will receive a diploma, 10 thousand pesos and the publication of his or her work in printed and digital format.
As part of the activities planned, Ediciones La Luz will hold a panel in Gibara focused on Cabrera Infante’s work. The program also includes book presentations, author meetings, and conferences on Kafka.
Established in 1999, The Celestino Short Story Prize has recognized writers such as Rubén Rodríguez, winner of the Cortázar Short Story Prize and first winner of the contest with the work “Flora and the Angel”. (Source: ACN)
