María Dolores Rodríguez Cabrera was a distinguished soprano from Holguín, whose career made her a benchmark for opera singing both in Cuba and abroad.
Born in 1966, she was the leading figure of the Rodrigo Prats Lyric Theater of this city since the 1980s and the most awarded Cuban lyrical singer in the 1990s.
Trained under the guidance of masters such as Raúl Camayd and Náyade Proenza, she performed in more than twenty countries, and her extensive repertoire covered genres such as opera and zarzuela.
She dedicated much of her life to musical teaching, training new generations both at the University of the Arts in Holguín and abroad.
She passed away in 2021 due to COVID-19, but her artistic legacy and influence remain alive in the hearts of her students and colleagues, and in the memory of the public who recognized her for the quality of her art.
As an example of this, the María Dolores Rodríguez In Memoriam Competition has been held in her honor since 2024, with tha aim to inspire young talents.
Remembering her is more than an act of nostalgia; it's a sign of gratitude, of respect for her more than 30 years of work, and a commitment to the history of Cuban art.
