20th Gibara International Festival of Low-Budget Cinema announced

The Cuban Ministry of Culture, the ICAIC, and the governments of Holguín and Gibara announced this Wednesday the call for entries to for the 20th edition of the Gibara International Festival of Low-Budget Cinema, which will take place from April 14 to 18, 2026.
Registration will be open from October 6, 2025, to January 5, 2026, for creators of any nationality with works completed between 2024 and January 2026.
The competition includes feature films and short films in fiction, documentary, animation, and experimental audiovisual categories, with national and international jury will evaluate the works, which will compete for the Lucía awards and other recognitions.
In addition, upcoming contests such as Cinema in Construction and Low-Budget Cinema Factory, part of the festival's cultural offerings, will be announced.
Sergio Benvenuto Solás, the event's president, highlighted that the festival represents a local development project that brings visibility and connects Gibara with the world through low-budget cinema. He also noted that despite interruptions caused by the pandemic, the festival has remained active for 23 years, and this edition will celebrate its impact on the city and surrounding communities.
