The book La madrina de Birán, written by journalist Adelfa Hernández Hernández and historian Antonio López Herrera, was presented in Holguín during the International Book Fair.

The work focuses on Lina Ruz, mother of Fidel and Raúl Castro, and explores the roots of her humanist upbringing and fighting spirit, which decisively influenced the lives of both revolutionary leaders.

Published by Conciencia Ediciones of the University of Holguín, the book dedicates a special chapter to testimonies from people who knew Lina Ruz. These accounts highlight her strong moral character and her constant commitment to helping the most humble residents of the community where she lived, portraying her as a figure of deep social impact.

Released during the year of Fidel Castro’s Centennial, the edition has been praised for its careful aesthetic design, which pays homage to Lina Ruz’s personality. Visual artist Alexander Andiarena Rodríguez is recognized for the portrait illustrating the cover and for the illustrations heading each chapter, adding a significant visual dimension to the work.

The contribution of Julio César Hidalgo Santiesteban, responsible for the cover design and digital layout, is also highlighted for enhancing the book’s visual quality.
