Holguín is among the nine Cuban provinces in which the presence of the Oropouche virus has been confirmed, which leads to increasing the epidemiological surveillance system and measures against its transmitting agent, the mosquitoes of the genus Culex and diptera of the genus culicidae (Jejen culicoide).
This fact makes more complicated the situation in the territory, where an increase in the incidence rate of suspected dengue cases has been reported in recent weeks, due to the level of infestation reached by the Aedes aegypti mosquito.
Hence the need to go to the doctor for non-specific fever syndromes, headaches, muscle and joint pain and other symptoms, such as vomiting and diarrhea.
In the case of this disease, the clinical picture is usually preceded by an incubation period of five to seven days, with some of the symptoms mentioned above, for which there is no specific treatment, but there are actions that lead to relief, such as going to the doctor for a timely diagnosis, because dengue is also present, which can lead the patient to serious states of the disease.
In summer season rains are frequent, which favors the proliferation of these vectors, whose reproduction cycle is shortened and there are more places where the female mosquito can lay her eggs, hence it is the population of these disease transmitters increases.
There are four serotypes of dengue virus, so suffering from one of them leaves the individual with immunity to it, but increases the risk to become infected with another serotype, which leads to serious complications.
Dengue is a febrile illness that is usually accompanied by other signs: joint, muscle, headache and eye pain, but there may also be some type of bleeding.
Going to the doctor in a timely manner is essential, because although severe forms are not very frequent, reaching the health system on time does save lives.
But the most important thing is to prevent from home with the autofocus and other measures. If there are no Aedes mosquitoes there will be no transmission of dengue and if there is no Culex there will be no Oropouche Fever.
