Conferences on the promotion of the Demonstration Areas of non-communicable diseases (NCD) are taking place in Holguín from July 1 to 20, with the participation of professionals from the sector who exchange knowledge on the topic.
According to Dr. Juan Carlos Báster Moro, official of the NCD Coordinating Department of the Provincial Center of Hygiene, Epidemiology and Microbiology, these activities include all the assistance levels and comprehensive medical attention, epidemiology, teaching and research.
“During these 20 days activities are carried out in the University of Medical Sciences (UCMHo), in the Provincial Center of Hygiene, Epidemiology and Microbiology and in the General Directorate of Health, as well as in the demonstration areas in the comprehensive management of non-communicable diseases in the teaching polyclinic Alcides Pino Bermudez; for accidents at Manuel Díaz Legrá teaching polyclinic and the area of the advanced network of the HEART initiative for diabetes mellitus, located in the Pedro Díaz Coello university polyclinic,” he added.
These actions contribute to the transformations of the comprehensive management for NCDs developed in Cuba, which have had an outstanding activity since the year 2023. As part of these actions, specific strategies are being developed in the different health institutions to transform their health framework.
The Demonstration Areas related to NCDs are a territorial movement based on the promotion and comprehensive approach to certain topics, with the aim to expand the best experiences to the rest of the Cuban provinces. They translate into a territorial contribution to the management of topics of interest and priority related to the prevention and control of NCDs, treated with special interest.
The event, which also includes morning lectures and specialized conferences, celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Cuban Society of Public Health (SOCUSAP) on July 10; the 40th anniversary of the Family Doctor and Nurse Program and the activities for the 71st anniversary of the assaults on the Moncada Barracks in Santiago de Cuba and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes Barracks in Bayamo.
