Holguín to hold National Mental Health Symposium

Holguín will host the National Mental Health Symposium from May 14 to 17 at the Vladimir I. Lenin University Hospital Theater, with the aim to debate the current needs of the local population.

The agenda will include lectures, courses, workshops, panels, and collateral activities, such as visits to healthcare centers and the presentation of the book "El Caballero de París" by Dr.C. Luis Calzadilla Fierro, the guest of honor.

It will have the participation of specialists in psychiatry and child psychiatry, residents, psychologists, general practitioners, nursing staff, and other mental health professionals.

The occasion will be an opportunity to exchange on Mental Health topics, such as Psychiatric Clinic, Biological Psychiatry, Addictions, Art and Mental Health, Therapeutic Cinedebate, Cognitive Disorders and Dementias, Psychotherapy, Violence and Liaison Psychiatry, among others.

Participants will also debate on psychiatric clinical practice, biological psychiatry, addictions, art and mental health, therapeutic film debates, cognitive disorders and dementias, psychotherapy, violence, and liaison psychiatry, among others.

The symposium aims to promote exchange on these critical issues, given the high global prevalence of mental disorders and substance-related problems, which are major causes of morbidity, disability, and premature mortality

This edition is dedicated to the memory of Dr. Victor Urbino Matamoros, a distinguished psychiatry professor in Holguín, and is organized under the leadership of Dr. Mayra Góngora Herce, president of the Holguín Chapter of the Cuban Society of Psychiatry and chair of the Organizing Committee.
