The Regional Neonatal Surgery Center (CRCN) of Holguín, based at the Octavio de la Concepción de la Pedraja Pediatric Hospital, has been equiped with an advanced Mindray A8 anesthesia workstation, one of three high-tech devices recently acquired in Cuba for a similar centers.

This module is specially designed for neonates, infant, or low-weight patients requiring intensive care, offering safe and reliable anesthesia as well as advanced monitoring in a single unit.

Dr. Ana Patricia Rivas Naranjo, a specialist in pediatric anesthesiology and hospital deputy director, explained that the equipment will benefit all newborns in the central-eastern region of the country who require surgery, achieving very favorable results in the care of newborns with complex congenital malformations.

Dr. Rivas Naranjo emphasized that this machine provides highly reliable and safe anesthesia, enables the administration of small volumes of gases in patients with reduced lung compliance, and enables advanced patient monitoring in a single unit, among other benefits.

Before installation, key personnel received training in Havana for proper use of the device.
The CRCN in Holguín attends neonates within the first 30 days of life and is nationally recognized as a benchmark in neonatal surgery maintaining high standards despite resource limitations.

It achieves a high survival rate among patients who undergo surgery, primarily due to an experienced multidisciplinary team and well-established protocols.

Furthermore, it is recognized for its close collaboration with other regional institutions, such as the maternity ward of the Vladimir I. Lenin Provincial University Hospital, to ensure timely surgeries, and for its coordination with other institutions in the eastern región of the country for the urgent transfer of cases when needed.
