Currently there are 95 protocols assumed by the province, of which 70 are closed, although some keep patients in treatment, 22 in execution while three protocols on Prostate, Spinocerebellar Ataxia and lymphoma will start in 2018, said Dr. Zaimar Rodríguez Feria, head of the Provincial Clinical Trial Group.
According to the specialist, the most influential in prolonging the life of patients are hR3 or Nimotuzumab for various cancer localizations, Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF) gradually extended to Primary Health Care (PHC) of the territory and the Incarbacel IV for skin cancer.

Also some of the trials are already incorporated or in the implementation phase in the primary health care of several municipalities, among them Holguín, Gibara, Moa, Banes, Calixto García, Urbano Noris, Cueto, Rafael Freyre, Báguano and Mayarí.

In 1993 Holguín joined these investigations with three clinical trials, the use of recombinant streptokinase for acute myocardial infarction and interferon alfa in respiratory papillomatosis in children and adults and progressively has been introducing studies in clinical sites of the PHC and secondary health care.
