The Center for Assisted Reproduction in Holguín implements this year new techniques in order to maintain the sustainability in the number of pregnancies and increase the effectiveness rate in the services of high and low complexity.

The center for the care to the infertile couple, based at the university hospital Vladimir Ilich Lenin, has created the conditions to start the vitrification of embryos and gametes and later the intracytoplasmic sperm injection, much more advanced procedure that will allow to secure higher dividends than those reported so far in this center, with coverage for the five eastern provinces and Camaguey.

This was stated by Doctors Julio Yamel Verdecia Reyes, general director of the hospital and Eloy Verdecia Silva, head of the Assisted Reproduction Program in the province, during a press conference held on Thursday, in order to recognize the work carried out by the medical staff of the health center.

Verdecia Silva said that they already have in the unit the incubator of multi-door embryos, as well as an anti-vibration table in order to guarantee the implementation of the novel technique of high complexity, although there’s a lack of some supplies and essential materials.

The Second Degree specialist in Gynecobstetrics hihglighted the constant preparation of human resources in training courses inside and outside the country, the participation in other improvement actions in coordination with the University of Medical Sciences and the creation in the province of the Chair of Assisted Reproduction and Embryology, which will allow expanding professional exchange with specialists in primary health care and developing territorial scientific events.

Both specialists described as good the 2019 results, as 61 pregnancies were achieved through In Vitro Fertilization with 36, 3 percent effective against 30.1 in 2018, only surpassed by the Ramón González Coro gynecological hospital in La Havana, despite the effects of the US economic blockade that has an impact on this expensive program, since a treatment costs 7 thousand euros, while in Cuba this treatment free of charge.
