The experience, the will to work and the genetic improvements guaranteed with quality queen bees, will allow taking advantage of all the blooms that occur in the province in 2021, mainly at the beginning of spring, said Rogelio Saavedra Domínguez, director of the Beekeeping Company in Holguín.

This year the entity raised its production plan to 570 tons of honey as it seeks to increase the yields achieved in 2020, affected by the shortage of material resources, the impact of COVID-19 and the worsening of the U.S. blockade on Cuba.

The work strategy of the Beekeeping Company has included several actions for the fulfillment of the plan, such as the movement from all the municipalities of the province of four thousand hives to places where the there are abundant plants of Romerillo, with high melliferous potential.

These hives must produce the honey necessary to fulfill the plan for January and support the whole of the year.

"The honey produced from specific blooms will favor the diversification of associated productions, the derivatives of this product and the components of the honeycombs, including wax, royal jelly and pollen, with the aim of promoting sales to the international market”, said Saavedra.

The Holguín Beekeeping Company is among the agricultural entities in the territory that generates important exportable items. The ton of honey produced through an ecological process reaches high values in the international market, so achieving this type of production should be one of the primary objectives of this entity.
