Cuban Deputy Prime Minister checks investments in Holguín

Cuban Deputy Prime Minister Inés María Chapman Waugh made a working visit to the province of Holguín on Friday to check the progress of investments associated with the East-West Transfer, linked to important economic and social objectives in this territory.


Accompanied by Julio César Estupiñán Rodríguez, vice president of the Provincial Defense Council, Chapman Waugh toured the area where the Levisa dam is being built, where she checked the progress made by this important hydraulic work in execution of the first stage.

Once completed, the Levisa dam will function as a communicating basin for approximately 80 million cubic meters per year through the Miguel-Levisa tunnel to the Mayarí dam, and will store around six million cubic meters.

Likewise, she was interested in the Water Transfer conditions and the results regarding its impact on agricultural production and energy generation.

The Deputy Prime Minister said that building a dam at times like these is a great effort and added that the Cuban government is committed to achieve greater food production, energy generation and economic development.

The issue of wages is also important, as well as increasing production so that it is reversed in the business sector and protecting the communities from floods in rainy periods, all this together with the Life Task are essential issues.

Inés María Chapman visited the Small Hydroelectric Power Plant on the Right Bank of the Mayari dam, which, since its start-up more than 4 years ago, has generated 54.6 GW / h incorporated into the National Electroenergy System (SEN), equivalent to saving 14,205 tons of fuel.
