The agricultural sector in the province of Holguín will progressively increase its capacity in obtaining high-quality seeds for crops of predominant lines in the territory such as bananas, in response to investment programs aimed at food production.
The reopening here of the biofactory of seeds, which some years ago supplied this component to agricultural entities in the territory, will benefit producers, both from the state sector and peasants from the territory.
Miguel David Góngora Garcell, director of the seed production company of the provincial delegation of agriculture, told ACN that the productive restart of the facility will allow delivering one million in vitro plants each year, as well as other varieties such as taro and different types of vegetables.
These supplies, the specialist said, will guarantee the sustainability of some 300 hectares of extra-dense banana with seeds free of pests and diseases in this crop, one of the largest in the province.
The Holguín biofactory reopened after being closed for about 10 years due to the deterioration of its technology and obstacles of supplies due to the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States against Cuba, Góngora added.
The productive restart of the facility was possible after investments carried out here and the acquisition of equipment and means of work for its laboratories for amounts of more than two million 745 pesos.
