The participation of the University of Holguín (UHo) in projects to promote science and innovation for local development was highlighted this Friday in meeting to analyze compliance with the academy's strategic objectives in 2024.
At the Oscar Lucero Moya university headquarters, the work commission of the Ministry of Higher Education (MES), together with professors and department heads of the house of higher studies, also evaluated the progress of the institution in the preparations of the new academic year.
Reynaldo Velázquez Zaldívar, vice minister of the MES, praised the positive impact on production, exports, import substitution and the center's linkages through its participation in 41 territorial programs that promote social and economic transformation from the communities.
Key to this has been the role of the Municipal University Centers (CUM), which advise government agencies, satisfy training needs, strengthen ties with entities and collaborate in socioeconomic activities in each locality,.
Velázquez emphasized the sustainability of human resources and professional improvement, with emphasis on doctoral training, which has been included in the improvement of the educational process in general and the accreditation of the University in particular.
Other points reviewed were the progress in the digital transformation plan and the political-ideological work, as well as the need to increase the export of services aimed at increasing income and establishing international agreements that expand the vision and knowledge of students.
Regarding the assurance of the new academic course, Doctor of Science Aniuska Ortiz Pérez, rector of the UHo, added that they have the conditions essential for the incorporation into the classrooms of the more than 11,700 students enrolled in the 42 existing courses, of which of which 36 are day courses, the same number per meeting, five distance courses and 12 short cycle courses.
The University of Holguín, made up of four campuses, nine faculties, 10 CUM and two national branches, will open its doors on September 16 to new students and on October 7 for continuing students.
