The Holguín-based Engineering and Design Services Company Vértice is participating in the materialization of a social project in the South American country of Guyana, which promotes the well-being of senior citizens and favors the establishment of commercial relations abroad.
Given the aging of the population at an international level, the care and protection of this age group is of special importance, which is why new construction approaches to housing, health and leisure institutions that reflect their real needs are emerging, Ivett Planas Trujillo, head of Design for the entity, explained to ACN.
The project includes the design of a residence and recreational center for senior citizens that includes a medical area, with 100 internal places and 200 day places, different modalities that combine elements of comfort such as the use of ramps and areas used for healthy recreation, she pointed out.
The difficulty was the short time available to present the proposal, which had to adhere to the architectural characteristics of the nation, which required study, among which the use of piles due to their location in areas prone to flooding and the installation of cisterns for the use of rainwater stood out, she said.
Despite this, this type of work is not foreign to the institution with vast experience in consulting, design and preparation of works throughout the Caribbean island, she said.
The architect referred to the works of social relevance in which they have collaborated, such as the construction of homes corresponding to the National Housing Program, the construction of children's houses, the renovation of health centers and the repair of infrastructure damaged by natural disasters in the country, which has enhanced their portfolio in humanitarian projects.
Founded in 2004, Vértice has obtained important awards for its work in the sector, including the Quality Award of the Republic of Cuba and the Technological Innovation Award granted by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment. (Source: ACN)
