The University of Holguín (UHO) hosted the Caribbean Final Qualifiers of the International University Programming Competition (ICPC), an event that brought together young talents from various disciplines with the aim of promoting the development of programming skills.
Organized in Holguín by Yisel Clavel Quintero, director of the ICPC in Cuba, the competition allowed the participation of students from different areas, promoting inclusion and teamwork.
The practical session of the event lasted five hours and included students from the Faculty of Informatics-Mathematics, Medical Sciences, IPVCE José Martí and the Active Military Service.
The IPVCE team won the bronze medal, which gave them direct offers to study computer science courses. In addition, the University of Medical Sciences of Holguín managed to qualify for the Caribbean Final, marking a significant advance in the inclusion of non-technical teams in this competition.
During the closing ceremony, the most outstanding teams were recognized and the teams that qualified for the Caribbean Final were announced, such as the "EXULAN.SYS" and "Hello World" teams, both from the University of Holguín.
The event was sponsored by the Project "Management of digital transformation in the training and development of public officials", part of the territorial program "Modernization and innovation of the management of public administration in the province of Holguín", as well as the Cuban Postal Company in Holguín, the Cuban Society of Mathematics and Computing and the Union of Computer Scientists of Cuba in Holguín.
This annual contest not only encourages the development of young talent in Cuba through competitive programming, but also promotes essential skills such as problem solving, critical thinking and teamwork.
Beyond being a simple competition, the ICPC becomes a space for mutual support and learning among participants.
