With the presentation of the Grand Prize to the work "Pasarelas Ignoradas", by Lourdes Pichs and Jorge Fernández, the local newspaper ¡ahora! celebrated its 62nd anniversary after the usual recognition of the best journalistic practices of that medium.
The article exposed a topic transversal to the whole society with excellent depth by relying on official sources and the opinions of several people interviewed. In addition, it responded to the requirements of the genre and demonstrated its effectiveness in addressing certain topics.
"Nelson Herrera Ysla: I believe in inspiration as I believe in talent," by Milo García Muñiz, was the award-winning work in the interview category for revealing a dialogue with a man of broad culture, knowledgeable and exquisite in the arts, very demanding with his own and others' judgments, in addition to the author's intelligence in the ability to recreate a conversation and give the text a structure that is far from the usual one in the medium.
In the informative genre, the award went to "CBA 100 - Has industrial property," also by Lourdes Pichs, for revealing a genuine Holguín medical product, while in the commentary genre the award went to "Poor Son, Rich Son," by Yenny Torres for revealing the complexity of building a fair society.
Likewise, in the column section the award went to “Detrás de la palabra” (Behind the word), by Rubén Rodríguez, in the chronicle for "¡Hasta siempre compay!" (Farewell, friend!), by Jorge Fernández, while the reportage section the award went to "Nómadas en la ciudad" (Nomads in the city), by Jorge Fernández and Lourdes Pichs.
Maribel Flamand, director of the newspaper, thanked all the workers who have left their mark on the weekly for 62 years and highlighted the important role of the new generations in the consolidation of the newspaper and the daily updating of the website and social networks.
Founded on November 19, 1962, the newspaper ¡ahora! has been offering information on local events, the country and the rest of the world for more than six decades and its digital edition was created in 2002 in three languages. In addition, it has the cultural supplement Ámbito and the magazine Serranía to reach the mountainous communities of Holguín. (Source: ACN)
