The change in energy matrix towards renewable energy sources is a priority in Cuba, due to it represents for sustainable development and sovereignty in generation, based on the reduction of the effects of climate change.

The investment project of the photovoltaic park being built in the area of La Corúa, located in the municipality of Mayarí, is an example of the union of efforts and wills, where several entities have been immersed in pursuit of the effective installation of the panels in the province of Holguín.

Yobany Almira Laurencio, responsible for the project, said that its implementation began on May 14 of last year, with the objective of locating in that area a solar park similar to others under construction process in Cuba, with a generation capacity of 21.8 megawatts.

The facilities cover 20 hectares of land, intended for 1,638 tables with more than 42 thousand photovoltaic panels, of which more than 49 percent had already been installed by that date.

Once completed, the cleaning up of the connections of the ground grids, the cables and the final process to promote the exploitation of the park at its full capacity will be carried out.

“It will provide greater stability to the national electrical energy system (SEN). For example, in the territory of Mayarí, where it is located with more than 1,300 square kilometers and nearly 96 thousand inhabitants, it will make a difference,” said Almira Laurencio.

In this regard, he specified that it will be connected to the SEN and together with other similar facilities in different parts of the country, it will contribute to strengthening it. "The estimated date for its completion is the first half of March 2025, when we plan to synchronize the park with the SEN," said the director.

"When a work of this type is going to be done, the location of the place is studied with the objective of ensuring that the radiation of the Sun is much more intense and, in this case, it is also close to the output substation where the energy will be put to the SEN," he explained.

"It is strategically located to strengthen the national system and for the people of this region is a pride to have assumed the execution of what will mean for the future of our country," said Almira Laurencio on behalf of his colleagues, who know the importance of renewal in the energy field.
