Cuban President pays tribute to military fallen in the line of duty

Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel paid homage on Monday to thirteen military who fell in the line of duty, in the eastern Cuban province of Holguín.
During the posthumous ceremony at the Mayor General Calixto Garcia Revolution Square, the President joined the people and the relatives of the victims in their grief and led the last guard of honor representing the shock of an entire country due to the tragedy.
An electric failure caused by short-circuit inside a war material depot, where the thirteen members of the Cuban Revolutionary Armed Forces were doing their job, triggered a blast killing all. The fatal accident occurred in the Holguin Military District of the Eastern region of the Cuban Armed Forces or “Ejercito Oriental”.
In remarks at the ceremony, Brigadier General Florencio Navas, Chief of the Ejercito Oriental said that in acknowledgment of the military fallen in the line of duty, they would posthumously be granted the Calixto Garcia medal, and the officers and petit officers promoted to their immediate higher ranks.
During the ceremony wreaths were laid on behalf of Army General Raul Castro, Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel, the Ministry of the Revolutionary Armed Forces, the relatives and the people of Holguin, as well as in the name of the Association of Veterans of the Cuban Revolution.
Also present at the ceremony was Prime Minister Manuel Marrero, along Armed Forces Minister Army Corps General Alvaro Lopez Miera, other high-ranking military chiefs, and local political authorities.
