Sports: “We do not give up on being among the best provinces”

Holguín maintains aspirations in the competitive field and different areas of physical education and recreation, according to Yudalkis Espinosa Preval, the new provincial director of Sports.
Master in Sports Pedagogy, Espinosa Preval assumed that responsibility at the end of last year. Previously, she served as deputy director of the Provincial Baseball Academy and then director of the Eide. She was a judoka, a member of the national preselection and medal winner in national and international competitions.
She characterized 2024 as a year of progress in the comprehensive sphere of sport in this province. There was a two percent increase in the number of systematic practitioners in the different popular physical culture projects.
Holguín received a satisfactory rating at the national level in the Physical Education Class and for the second consecutive year obtained second place in Marabana-MaraCuba.
“Despite being a year of economic vicissitudes, we managed to hold the Mountain Games, among other competitions, although in the pioneer games there were no events in some disciplines,” she said.
“Holguín is the eighth comprehensive province in terms of competition in the country, but we do not give up on being among the top five, based on our potential and characteristics; we are already working on that in 2025,” she explained.
“In the different sports we work by quadrants (priorities) according to the interests of the country and the province.”
She added that 2025 will be a laborious year, as efforts must increase to resolve deficiencies and be a good host of the competitions designated to the territory, such as the National Championships of all judo categories, pioneer, school, youth and seniors.
