The Food Production and Distribution Company (Numa) of Holguín promotes diversification in its productions through the development of recipes and innovation as a way to satisfy the demands of the population.

Faced with a complex context for the acquisition of flour and sugar, which affect production processes, the search for alternatives has been essential in the vitality of the industry, Kirenia Balada Peña, director of the entity, explained to ACN.

The replacement of ingredients with others of equal or higher nutritional quality, acceptance and accessibility in local markets allowed the recovery of around 250 preparations in 2024, such as hamburgers and meatballs, prepared with sausage and minced chicken.

In accordance with the government policy that promotes the involvement of economic actors in the advancement of the Food Sovereignty Law, three self-consumption farms and about 15 hectares of plots were for the growing of root vegetables, vegetables and fruits in the preparation of offers.

Among these productions intended for the consumption of the population are juices, canned food, ice cream, candies and cookies, among others that makes possible to supply fairs and various gastronomic establishments.

Balada Peña indicated that the use of corn flour as a non-conventional input maintains the manufacturing lines related to baking and the production of bread from the regulated family basket, using endogenous resources, including sweet potato and pumpkin, which lowered prices and costs.

In this regard, the work of innovators is essential to maintain activity, develop equipment, take advantage of installed capacities and recover idle equipment, such as burenes and various mixers.
