Special Education in Holguín, made up of 26 schools, promotes greater social inclusion of children and young people with disabilities, as well as strengthening their self-validity through the development of projects with the collaboration of entities, families and the community.

Yudelkis Rivera Olivares, methodologist of Special Education in the province, told ACN that through this support network, they carry out initiatives aimed at facilitating the acquisition of knowledge and cognitive growth of the more than three thousand students who are enrolled in the territory.

With topics related to the care for the environment, the history and culture of their locality and artistic practices, these programs prepare students to develop in society taking into account their personal needs and interests, she said.

Rivera Olivares referred to projects carried out in the municipalities of Moa an Gibara, related to maritime ecosystems and the importance of their protection, as well as the collection of recycled materials which are used in the creation of teaching means used in classes.

Likewise, the job training of students in order to motivate them to have a life project for work is also a prioritized objective. An example of this are the students linked to companies such as the Inejiro Asanuma Spinning Mill in Gibara, which has served to generate sources of employment for graduates.

With the largest network of schools in the country, the northeastern province provides extensive coverage for schoolchildren with particular educational needs, whether or not associated with a disability, including those linked to sensory and intellectual difficulties, delayed mental development, behavioral disorders and autism spectrum disorder.
