The construction of a desalination plant in the community of Caletones, in Gibara, Holguín province, is about 80 percent complete, as part of efforts aimed at ensuring access to drinking water in vulnerable neighborhoods.

Daniel Báster Ventura, investment director of the Territorial Delegation of Hydraulic Resources, told ACN that the project consists of two plants, the first a donation from Japan and the other, state-funded, both with the capacity to process 0.75 and 5 liters per second, respectively.

This Project will benefit more than 400 residents in the community, who currently receive service via water trucks, and the camping site located in this coastal town, with space for 132 vacationers in 22 rooms, he added.

Báster Ventura explained that the first stage of the 0.75-liter plant has already been assembled, and electricity is awaiting commissioning, which will help meet residents' main needs.

Work is also underway to build a tanker truck loading dock on the premises, avoiding transportation from the municipal seat, approximately 20 kilometers from Caletones.

Other projects aimed at improving water supply in the province are also being implemented, including the Cueto water treatment plant, the search for new sources in rural and hard-to-reach areas, and investments in Ramón de Antilla and other regions of tourist interest.

The elimination of flooding areas, the installation of hydraulic hand pumps and the incporporation of new customers to the water and sewer systems, are also among the works carried out by the sector in this eastern territory. (Source: ACN)
