Several Renewable Energy Sources (RES) projects benefit rural communities in Holguín with a total of 1,519 photovoltaic systems installed in isolated homes of the eastern territory.
These efforts focus on replacing generator sets and saving over 35,000 liters of fuel, as part of the Former project, which promotes female leadership in renewable energy.
Fernando Hechavarría Pupo, Director of RES at the Holguín Electric Company, explained that they are identifying locations to shift the energy matrix with solar systems in municipalities such as Banes, Cacocum, Mayarí, Rafael Freyre, and Sagua de Tánamo.
The initiative includes installing 87 solar water heaters in the pediatric hospital of Holguín, educational centers, day care centers, maternity homes, homes for the elderly, as well as a solar park at the University of Moa for educational purposes.
Additionally, Holguín hosts large wind and photovoltaic parks that significantly contribute to the National Electric System, with ongoing projects to expand installed capacity and reduce fossil fuel consumption, aligning with the national energy matrix transition policy for 2030.
