Two new photovoltaic parks inaugurated today in Holguín

Two photovoltaic parks, with a generating capacity of 21.8 megawatts (MW) each, were inaugurated this week in Holguín, located in Pilón (Antilla municipality) and Providencia, near the Frank País International Airport.
Raúl Alexander Castillo Rodríguez, director of the Renewable Energy Sources Unit (UEB) in the province, said that the construction of the Pilón site was carried out in two stages, overcoming difficulties caused by the heavy rains of October and December of last year, and then continuing with the second phase of civil construction in March.
These projects are part of a provincial plan to add five solar farms totaling 109 MW by the end of the year, with a fifth park under construction in Cueto.
The company is working on another program, financed by the People's Republic of China, that includes the construction of 120 MW in the country, of which Holguín will contribute 40 MW distributed across six five-solar farms and one ten-solar farm.
The installation of these solar parks is a strategy implemented in the country since 2024 aimed at increasing electricity generation through renewable energy sources, gradually replacing more expensive and polluting ones. (Source: ACN)
