The Frank País International Airport in Holguín resumed operations smoothly after Hurricane Melissa, a category three storm on the Saffir-Simpson scale, passed through eastern Cuba, causing no severe damage to the facility.

Thanks to swift preventive measures, such as securing the terminal, equipment, windows and removing false ceilings, the facility reported no significant damage.

Following the cyclone, the airport received nine flights, including charter and regular services, among them those with air connections to the United States.

Although tourist arrivals were delayed due to damage to roads and hotels, preparations are underway to begin the high season with flights from Air Transat and WestJet Vacations.

Throughout the year, the airport has operated with 13 airlines connecting Canadian and American destinations. Passenger flow is expected to grow with the arrival of European tourists, especially from Germany, Russia, and the Czech Republic, boosting regional tourism.

The main damage was limited to the perimeter fence, landscaping, and exterior access areas, affected by strong winds and fallen trees.

In order to protect the facility and travelers, domestic and international flights were temporarily suspended or rescheduled during Hurricane Melissa's passage. (Source: ACN)
