In the centennial year of Fidel Castro's birth, the national celebration of Cuban Science Day will be held in the province of Holguín on January 15, 2026.
The announcement was made by the Cuban Minister of Science, Technology and Environment (CITMA), Armando Rodríguez Batista, during the Mesa Redonda television program held on December 16.
Rodríguez Batista said that Holguín stands out for the support given by the authorities to science and innovation, evidenced by the creation this year, even under very complex circumstances, of the Science, Technology and Industrial Park Nucl3um.
The Minister also provided details about the thorough process of drafting the General Act on Science, Technology and Innovation, which will be presented to the National Assembly of People's Power.
He praised the efforts of researchers, universities, innovation centers, businesspeople, and members of civil society who took part in the development of the legislation, now on its parliamentary stage after receiving input from deputies in nationwide debates.
He remarked that 25 modifications resulting from these discussions were made to the bill, including the explicit mention of artificial intelligence and the creation of an ethics commission for related research to strengthen its legal framework, as well as improvements to the link between the national development strategy and sectoral and territorial strategies to make public policies all the more consistent.
Another topic discussed was Cuba's participation in the United Nations Climate Change Conference COP30, where the Cuban delegation championed environmental multilateralism and the principle of common but differentiated responsibilities.
