The group Friends of Cuba, based in Victoria, Canada, held a solidarity meeting at the “Ronald Andalia Nieves” school in Holguín, coinciding with the School Day of Non-Violence and Peace.
Accompanied by representatives from the Party, the Government, and the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples, as well as neighbors and local students, the visitors participated in political and cultural activities and planted a tree as a symbol of brotherhood and commitment to a fairer world.

During the event, Lupe Isabel Fernández Ramírez, the provincial delegate of ICAP, highlighted the long history of collaboration of the Canadian group, which is part of the solidarity support network with Cuba. This collective has developed multiple exchange initiatives, visiting educational and health institutions, delivering donations, and learning about the effects of the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States on the Cuban population.
Renato Caravaggio, a member of the group, expressed his joy at witnessing the active participation of Holguín’s children and pioneers in promoting values such as peace and non-violence.
In his remarks, he denounced the growing hostility of the U.S. government and its visible aggressions in regions such as the Middle East and Venezuela, emphasizing the group’s admiration for the Cuban Revolution’s resistance and its example in defending justice and human solidarity.
Friends from the José Martí Solidarity Association of Valencia, Spain, also joined the gathering, reaffirming their longstanding support for Cuba in causes such as the return of Elián González, the release of the Five Heroes, and the demand to end the blockade.
The commemoration, held on January 30th, the World Day of Non-Violence, inspired actions focused on respect, tolerance, and the peaceful resolution of conflicts, in remembrance of the legacy of Mahatma Gandhi.
