The Comandante Ernesto Che Guevara Nickel Company (ECG Minera) in Moa, Holguín province, announced the gradual resumption of its operations, focusing on production efficiency.

At a meeting of the company's board of directors, progress on the recovery work carried out during the last two months of 2016 was reported.

During the meeting, directors of key areas such as production, mining, plants, maintenance, and investments detailed the work performed. Due to the need to ensure technological stability, this pause did not signify a cessation of activities, but rather a period of intensive technical preparation.

The company's general manager, M.Sc. Alexander Garcés Rigñak, emphasized that the company was never closed. "It was a temporary shutdown that has allowed for cleaning, repairs, and maintenance to ensure the availability of each plant for the start of operations."

The restart schedule will be implemented in stages, with each area director providing timely updates on the gradual recovery of production levels, Garcés Rigñak emphasized.

"We are starting up to deliver the planned production, reducing losses and achieving solid economic results. We have a guaranteed, sustained restart, and it is within our power to ensure the continuity of nickel and cobalt production for the coming months," he affirmed.

The resumption of operations at ECG Minera is considered to be a driving force for the Cuban metallurgical industry in 2026. (Source: Radio Angulo)
