In a decisive step toward strengthening industrial development and e-commerce, business leaders and authorities in Holguin held a key exchange. With representatives of the Investment and Trade Platform for Latin America (PICLA).
This initiative, jointly promoted by the governments of China and Cuba. It seeks to transform business development in eastern Cuba. Providing direct access to suppliers from the Asian giant and advanced logistics services.
From West to East: A Consolidated Expansion
The PICLA platform began operations in 2023. Initially establishing itself in the provinces of Pinar del Río, Havana, and Matanzas, before expanding to Camagüey.
Its arrival in Holguin is part of a consolidation phase that recognizes the province’s endogenous potential and robust business network. According to reports from the meeting—which included the participation of the Governor of Holguin, Manuel Francisco Hernández Aguilera. The region offers a strategic opportunity to diversify the economy and enhance the competitiveness of local businesses.
Technology and Commerce: The Operating Model
Madiu Quiroga Gómez, PICLA Coordinator in the province of Camagüey, explained that the model is based on digital tools. That eliminate intermediaries and streamline processes:
E-commerce Management: The platform operates through the Dofimall website, where customers have direct access to products.
Logistics Management: The system guarantees the supply of raw materials and essential inputs for companies and new ventures in high-demand sectors.
An Alliance with the Ministry of Domestic Trade (MINCIN): One of the immediate objectives in the province is the opening of SUMAI Stores. A joint venture established with the Ministry of Domestic Trade.
The initial efforts will focus on the textile and footwear sectors. Areas where the project already has the on-site support of stakeholders.
This academic alliance seeks to ensure that foreign investment and economic cooperation translate into sustainable development for the region. With the open doors of the Government and the Party in the province. PICLA is proposed not only as a sales channel but also as an environment for comprehensive economic cooperation.
As the slogan of this platform, which is now taking root in eastern Cuba, aptly states: “A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step,” Quiroga Gómez explained. For Holguin, that step has already been taken toward modernization and commercial sovereignty.
