Investments contribute to improving water supply in Holguín

The Provincial Delegation of is implementing a series of investments aimed at improving the water supply for the residents of Holguín, amidst the fuel crisis affecting the country.
The main investments are carried out in the municipalities of Cueto, Cacocum, Mayarí, and Gibara, which include water treatment plants and pipelines designed to provide gravity-fed service, said Rafael Montero, a specialist from the Delegation of Hydraulic Resources in the province.
These projects prioritize areas affected by drought, vulnerable communities, and settlements whose water cycles are disrupted by leaks or other factors that hinder access to this vital resource.
He added that the strategy will benefit areas such as Birán and Caletones, which are prioritized in government programs aimed at improving basic services.
The specialist explained that construction of the Cueto Water Treatment Plant is progressing, and a photovoltaic system has been installed to power the civil works.
Despite the difficult situation the country is facing due to the strengthening of the United States' hostile policy against Cuba and its impact on the fuel shortage, alternatives are being sought to provide electricity to pumping stations and ensure quality service for the population.
The eastern province has more than 100 solar-powered systems benefiting rural and hard-to-reach communities, supplying water to areas without electricity or during emergencies affecting the National Electric System.
Holguín is also making progress on feasibility studies included in the Cuban water program, such as drilling new wells and eliminating flood-prone areas. (Source: ACN)
