Holguín is preparing to implement the Neighborhood Market project, an initiative aimed at transforming retail commerce through the sale of food, cleaning and hygiene products, and other goods. The program will operate through a selected network of grocery stores, butcher shops, and community markets.

The establishments will be managed by state-owned companies, micro-, small-, and medium-sized enterprises, cooperatives, self-employed workers, and other authorized economic actors. In communities where suitable facilities do not exist, establishments currently managed by economic actors may exceptionally be incorporated.

The project seeks to restore and improve the appearance of the premises, expand product offerings, and strengthen basic services for the population. At the same time, traditional grocery stores will continue to sell products from the regulated basic food basket and distribute donations from the World Food Programme, with special attention given to vulnerable individuals and families.

Consumers will be able to pay through electronic commerce and purchase regulated products according to availability, with prices aligned with social and territorial interests. The project will also promote delivery services, prepackaged goods, and sales in Cuban pesos. So far, 24 centers have been selected across the municipality’s 21 Popular Councils, and interested parties may submit their applications starting August 17, within a period of ten working days.
