The Popular Camping Company in Holguín today shows strength, both in quantity and comfort of its facilities distributed throughout several municipalities, as well as in the quality of services, marketing, and recreational options.

After years of splendor, little by little, nature and ecological tourism in the province became almost "Cinderella" with respect to other territories in the country; however, there is a resurgence very well appreciated, because this type of tourism is widely accepted among the population.

This is the result of a Camping development program undertaken in the northeastern region of the island, which has allowed the five units in 2019 (Villa Cromita, Río Cabonico, El Vaquero, Playa Blanca and Silla de Gibara), with 133 rooms, to accommodate about 540 vacationers in each rotation, currently triple all those figures.

Thus, as of 2020, the first effects of this plan begin to bear fruit with the inauguration of Playa Antillita on July 18, followed by Playa Morales, in Banes; Playa Barrancones, in Antilla, and that same summer the first construction phase of the Playa Carenerito campsite was completed, which was designed to become the largest in Holguín, with 512 capacities (currently it only has accommodation for 120 people).

These were recently joined by another luxury facility, Los Bajos, on the beach of the same name, while another modern camping base is under construction, with a swimming pool included, in Caletones, both in the municipality of Gibara; while the investment program will continue with works in Moa (Cayo Guam) and Juan Vicente, in Mayarí.

Thus, in a period of three years (2020-2023), the Company grew by 236 rooms (including tents) and 1,130 more capacities to reach a total of 369 rooms, with 1,670 lodging facilities.

In the inauguration of Los Bajos camping site, the Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz said that this start of Campismo Popular in the province obeys an idea of Army General Raúl Castro Ruz, who during a tour of the area with the objective of appreciating the development of the tourist activity, appreciated that in various points of the Holguín coast the population was concentrated in an improvised way, with the objective of spending the summer.

Faced with this reality, he suggested to promote the nature tourism system on the north coast, with comfortable buildings where children, young people and the general population could enjoy the benefits of beaches and other natural attributes of the environment.

This is how the proposal of eight new bases arose, some already built and others planned to be completed in 2024, which leads this province to be among the standard bearers in this form of tourism, whose practice is welcomed throughout the world.

In addition, coupled with the growth in units and lodging capacity, the Holguín Popular Camping Company goes hand in hand with the revival of gastronomy, recreation and the proposal of various options for families, which lead to ensuring that today this tourist modality is at its best in this northeastern province.
