Leuris Pupo, London 2012 Olympic champion and silver medal in Tokyo 2020, aspires in San Salvador to his fourth individual crown in the Central American and Caribbean Games in sport shooting.

The Holguín athlete, representative of the 25-meter rapid-fire pistol, assures that despite the lack of tournaments in the year, the expectation does not change in this XXIV edition of the regional multi-sport event.

"Although we have not participated in a competition, which is important to be able to assimilate these moments of tension and stress, we are confident that things will turn out well," said the silver medalist in Barranquilla 2018.

"In shooting, the mind is the main thing, it cannot betray you, and you must bring to the event an approach of what you did in training," said who is participating in his fifth Central Caribbean games.

“Sometimes you arrive very well and things happen in the tournament that require adaptation. We had a training base in Venezuela and another recently in Spain to take over these Games”, explained the 46-year-old athlete.

Winning the team gold is also the team's goal with a view to revalidating the crown from five years ago, led by Leuris, Jorge Félix and Juan Pérez; while they achieved a record for the Games with 1,713 points.

“It is not a secret that the discipline in Cuba faces a lack of bullets and electronic systems, which affect the training; but when attitude, disposition and talent come together, everything works out well”, remarked Meinardo Torres Moraga, 25-meter rapid-fire pistol coach. (Source: ACN)

The disadvantages with the rest of the countries are overcome, because as we say, they train the head more than the arm - he said -, that technical-tactical thinking applied in training and in competition.
