This week, the Cuban Paralympic delegation has received various tributes in the Cuban capital, while Holguín wait for the arrival of its athletes Sheila and Ulicer, to offer them the recognitions they deserve from their province.
The tatami in Paris saw how Sheila Hernández Estupiñán from Holguín (more than 70 kilograms) dressed her judo (J2 category) in silver in the recent Paralympic Games, to give another award to her homeland and province.
This time only the Brazilian Souza could stop Sheila in the fight for gold, whom the Cuban had surpassed for the title in the last Pan American Games in Santiago de Chile-2023.
Sheila became the first woman from Holguín with a medal in the Paralympic Games, which she added to her world medals (individual silver and team bronze in Baku-2022) and the aforementioned Pan American title, on an upward trajectory in a short time, with only 23 years of age, which shows the good future that still has to come.
A few days earlier in Paris, the Holguín javelin thrower Ulicer Aguilera (F13) won the bronze, thus Holguín contributed two of the nine medals for Cuba (six golds, three silvers and one bronze), whose performance was qualified by the exceptional Omara Durant , who once again achieved the golden triple (100, 200 and 400 meters) to add 11 golden metals in the Paralympic Games.
