The silence at the shooting range will be different from now on. Leuris Pupo Requejo, considered the greatest shooter in the history of Cuban sports, has decided to retire, ending a career full of achievements and exemplary dedication.

Native of Holguín, Leuris was a symbol of perseverance, longevity in the sport, precision, and nerves of steel. He competed in seven Olympic Games, an unmatched feat in Cuba, standing out especially with a gold medal in London 2012 and a silver in Tokyo 2020.

In London 2012, he shot to glory with the most brilliant gold medal of his career, and in Tokyo 2020, almost a decade later, he returned to the podium to win silver, thus demonstrating his tenacity and perseverance.

Beyond his Olympic performance, Pupo left an indelible mark in the Pan American Games, winning gold medals in Santo Domingo 2003, Rio 2007, and Santiago 2023, and also shone in the World Cups with several medals.

Now, with the calm that only a great task accomplished can provide, Pupo says goodbye. His retirement marks the end of an era in Cuban shooting sports, but his legacy of perseverance, precision, and consistency will remain an inspiration for future generations.
