Holguín: 2018 Best Athletes Awarded

The best 2018 Holguín athletes were awarded during a gala held at the Expo-Holguín Fairground, with the presence of the main government authorities, the party and the sports organization in the province, as well as family and friends.
 
The best Cuban badminton player of the moment, Taimara Oropesa Pupo, expressed her satisfaction for the results achieved in the eight competitions she attended in 2018, where she won 14 medals, with greater relevance in the Central American and Caribbean Games of Barranquilla, Colombia, where she won four medals.

"It has been a very important year for me, not only because of the results, but because we have had more international events which allow to increase the quality of the Cuban badminton in a general. I will keep training to face the 2019 events with great optimism, always with an eye on the Pan American Games and qualifying for Tokyo. "

The Olympic champion Leuris Pupo Requejo (sport shooting) was recognized for his performance in the period, although he did not finish the year very pleased by his results, despite reaching the qualifications for the Olympic and Pan American Games and achieving three medals in the Colombian appointment.

The multi-laureate Yanelis Silva Zamora (Table Tennis) once again reached the distinction in the category for women in sports for people with disabilities, for her performance in national events (2 golds) and in the Costa Rica Cup.

Javelinist Ulicer Aguilera Cruz, best athlete of Cuba in 2018 among people with limitations, was chosen as the most outstanding athlete of the municipality of Banes, above conventional practitioners, with national record included, plus the three prizes reached in the Colombia Open (two gold-one silver).

The Central American monarch Danay Utria Verdecia (rhythmic gymnastics) was chosen as the rookie of the year, Yadel Martinez Pupo was the best referee of Holguín, professors Eire Cruz Rodríguez (softball-Holguín) and Yuliana Díaz Reyes (Urbano Noris) were praised in sport and physical education respectively, while the activist Rafael Ramírez Serrano (Báguano) was also decorated.
