Holguín baseball player recovers from face injury

Photo: Carlos RafaelThe Holguín baseball player Jorge Luis Peña remains stable after undergoing surgery this Tuesday at the Faustino Pérez Hospital, in the city of Matanzas, due to an injury caused by a strong hit on his face. According to Dr Ramiro Pichardo, a physician for the Holguín baseball team “Los Cachorros”, the operation for the fracture in the malar bone of the left cheekbone was successful and did not require placing a lamina in the reconstruction of that area.
The athlete is stable. The Holguín specialist in orthopedic recognized the professionalism of the medical team in charge of the surgery, as well as the attention and concern of the political, governmental and sports sector authorities of the Matanzas province.
The manager of “Los Cachorros”, Francisco Martínez Sánchez, pointed out that as soon as the incident occurred, Ernesto Santiesteban Velázquez, first secretary of the party in the province of Holguín, made a phone call and is aware of this situation, as well as fans from this eastern Cuban territory.
Holguín and Matanzas started a subseries on Tuesday in that province, where “Los Cachorros” won 5-2 supported by the monticular work of the right-hander Rubén Rodríguez and hitting by Yosbani Millán, who went 5-3, while Yordan Manduley drove in two.
