Cuba: Election of 605 Deputies to Parliament Confirmed

elecciones generales en cuba 2018The National Electoral Commission (CNE) confirmed at a Press conference the elections of 605 delegates for the National Assembly of the People´s Power. It was necessary that the candidates could surpass half of their electors ‘votes in each of their regions and that was what happened.
 
According to Cuba debate, the aforementioned Commission also offered preliminary data about the participation and quantity of cancels ballots.
 
The local CNE highlighted that the 82.90 % out of the more than eight million Cubans who have the right to vote attended to the polls and there were 5.6 % of them only who cancelled the vote or did not use it. This was a higher number to the one reached at the 2012-2013 electoral process. The numbers are not conclusive yet and the final results will be later announced.

It was about a popular event with the mass presence of electors as part of an intense day for reaffirming the Cuban electoral system´s principals and the Revolutionary achievements.
 
On this stage of the election when it was possible to choose all the candidates, some of them or a candidate, it was observed that the united vote reached the 80.44% while the 19.5 % were the selective vote option.
 
It was highlighted the good quality of the vote due to the total of deposited ballots in the polls: the 94.42 % were valid, the 1.26 % of them was cancelled and the 4.32 % were the unwritten ones.
 
According to the Cuban News Agency, the president of the CEN stated that there were more than 200000 people who worked as electoral officials as part of a recount of votes carried out on the previous day, apart from the existence of supervisors, collaborators and the permanent support given by institutions from the State Central Administration.
 
The 53.22 % out of the 605 deputies, who will be part of the IX People´s Power´s National Assembly for the upcoming five-year term, are women with which the Cuban Parliament is ratified as the second in the world with the higher female presence after the one from Rwanda.
 
María Esther Bacallao, who is the secretary of the CEN, specified that the 13.22 % of tie deputies are younger of 35 years of age, while the 47.44 % come from the grass roots level (constituency level).
 
With the carrying out of these elections without the physical presence of the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution Fidel Castro., the Cuban people ratified its commitment to the country´s future that drives some social and economic changes in order to develop a prosperous and sustainable socialist model.
 
According to the chronology of the process, the creation of the provincial assemblies will be carried out on the upcoming March 25th and the related one will be carried out on April 19th. Moreover, its president, vice-president and secretary will be elected, as well as the members of the local State Council and its president, first vice-president and vice-presidents. / ACN
