The Celestino Short Story Prize will return to the city of Holguín from June 15 to 18, under the auspices of Ediciones La Luz, seal of the Hermanos Saíz Association, which will dedicate its XXIII edition to the 110 years of the Cuban poet, narrator and playwright Virgilio Piñera.
Luis Yuseff, director of Ediciones La Luz, said at press conference that until the closing of the call on June 1, the organizing committee for the contest received 29 unpublished notebooks by email from young authors, representatives of almost all the Cuban provinces.
He pointed out that this year’s event will have the essayist Alberto Garrandés as president of the jury, along with the writer Elaine Vilar Madruga, one of the Celestino winners, and the prominent Holguín editor Adalberto Santos.
The renowned narrator and journalist Rubén Rodríguez will be the guest of the first day of Punto de Fuga , a space well-received by the public in the Romerías de Mayo, as a prelude to the event on the night of June 14 at the headquarters of Ediciones La Luz.
“The Fauces”, by Lourdes Mazorra, “Boustrophilia,” by Robert Ráez and “Lars Von Trier”, by Marvelys Marrero will be some of the editorial novelties that the collective will share these days with Holguín readers.
The program of activities also includes the presentation of the Ediciones La Luz catalog in El Almacén cultural center of the coastal city of Gibara; while the winner of the contest will be announced on June 18, who will receive, in addition to the corresponding accrediting diploma and the publication of his book by Ediciones La Luz, an engraving by maestro Cosme Proenza, a regular contributor to the contest.
The Celestino Short Story Prize, which since its creation in 1999 has witnessed the successful literary career of many of the winners, had Rubén Rodríguez as the winner of the first edition with the story book "Flora y el Ángel".
