The cultural ties that unite the peoples of the United States and Cuba are present once again in the 28th edition of the Ibero-American Culture Festival through the photographic exhibition "Peleas de gallo" by Bob Michael and the jazz musician León Quincy in an event that gathers artists, researchers and cultural promoters in the city of Holguín from October 24 to 30.

Photographer Bob Michael explained at a press conference that the exhibition opened to the public from the headquarters of the House of Ibero-America comprises some 12 snapshots that reflect that authentic tradition of Cuban and Latin culture, which were taken on rooster fences of various Cuban regions, including towns in the provinces of Holguín and Ciego de Ávila.

He said that his main purpose is to bring to the North American people part of a culture that is not well understood due to ignorance and added that just as he likes to expose the cultural life of Cuba in the United States, on other occasions he has brought to the island the black women communities who live in the south of his country, since in them he finds communicating vessels with Cuban society.

He commented that his work aims to unite both nations from the codes of photography. That is why he enjoys each return to Cuba and to the Ibero-American Culture Festival.

For his part, the trumpeter Leon Quincy together with the Hermanos Avilés Orchestra recently celebrated the 140th anniversary of the oldest group in Latin America from the Eddy Suñol Theater Cultural Complex.

Quincy, in addition to accompanying several musicians invited to the Festival, exchanged on Monday afternoon with students from the José María Ochoa Conservatory of Music about the influence of Cuban music in the United States.
He assured that he was impressed with the musical training of these young instrumentalists who play with heart and strength.

He meant that it is very important for him to be nurtured by Cuban musical roots in order to teach his students in the city of Chicago the best way to interpret Cuban and Latin American music in general, since teachers do not teach it in the correct way, as music must be learned not only from the technical but from the philosophical and historical roots.

The 28th edition of the Ibero-American Culture Festival to be held in the city of Holguín until October 30 will be inaugurated tonight with the concert "A musical journey through Ibero-America" by the Holguín Symphony Orchestra and guest artists under the direction of the teacher Orestes Saavedra.

Considered the main project of the House of Ibero-America, the event brings together on this occasion, from face-to-face spaces and digital platforms, participants from some 15 countries in conferences that will have as their central theme: the three decades of cultural debate around the mutual encounter between Europe and America in 1492.
