Exhibition by Cosme Proenza Opens in Holguín

The exhibition Variedades sobre temas de Matisse (Varieties on subjects of Matisse), by the renowned painter Cosme Proenza, opened Friday at the Provincial Center of Plastic Arts of the city of Holguin with the presence of the highest authorities of the Party and the Government in the province. 
The exhibit also includes the series Tetris and similar works entitled Pintura. It highlights pieces such as Natividad, Pieta and Resurrección, which refer to the Christian myth, a recurring theme in the author's artistic career. Pictorial genres such as nude, still life and landscape enrich the exhibition, as well as abstract painting.Yuricel Moreno, director of the Arts Center, thanked the support of the Cuban Fund of Cultural Assets, Artex and the Culture Sector in the province, for the materialization of this exhibition. She also invited those present to enjoy the recent gift of Cosme Proenza to the people of Holguin: the four pendentives arranged on the altar of the San Isidoro Cathedral, in the city of Holguín.
In his extensive artistic career Cosme Proenza has won several awards and recognitions such as the Alejo Carpentier Medal, the Distinction for National Culture and the Master of Youth Award, given by the Hermanos Saíz Association.
